THE CLUB

We would like to welcome you to The Household Pet Cat Club of Great Britain's website.

The Household Pet Cat Club of Great Britain is the first Household Pet Section club to gain Full Membership of the GCCF.

I first started to think about the idea in my capacity of Show Manager of The Colourpoint Cat Club. It seemed to me that just about every breed that is recognised and represented at shows in the GCCF has at least one club that caters purely for the breed. I then got to thinking well why shouldn’t there be club catering for the Household Pet Section after all this section is quite often bigger than some of the others at a show.

So the seed was planted.

Once the idea was set I went about seeing if it was a good proposal by asking a few people that show and judge in that section. The idea was well received among those I spoke to so onto the next stage, creating a committee.

Obviously the first person I had spoken to was Lesley Szwed, without whose tireless work the section would not be what it is today. She thought it was a brilliant idea and between the two of us we put together a committee of ten people. The Club Rules and Aims & Objectives were drawn up and agreed at the inaugural meeting on the 17th July 2011.

From the very first moment the intention was to seek, firstly, Provisional Membership of the GCCF and eventually Full Membership and in doing so become the first Household Pet club. The GCCF application form was filled in, the 21 copies of the Rule Book printed and we were on our way. After a little tweaking of the rules, as requested by GCCF, we were finally granted Provisional Membership at the 2012 June Council meeting.

Having gained the first part of the progression of the club we then needed to move forward towards the second part, that of gaining Full Membership of the GCCF. Having been a Provisional Membership Club for over three years, had over 50 members and sent in three years accounts, the last showing that we had over 50 members, we were able to apply for Full Membership in 2016.

Our Full Membership application was sent off on 12th April 2016 and was granted at the June 2016 Council meeting. Now we are a Full Member we can apply for a Show Licence and, as long as permission from GCCF is granted, hold a show purely for Household Pets.
